It’s not where you’re from, it’s where you’re going.

It has been a few weeks since I have written one of these. With the holidays and the year beginning to wind down, I felt the timeliness of this message could not be better.

Oh the Holidays… The crisp snap of the winter breeze, lights emerging from every corner imaginable; illuminating the evening skies like the sun just squeezed itself through the screen door. It’s a time for celebration, a time for reflection. For smiles, and long overdue embraces that have sat on shelves collecting the dust of neglect.

For too many people the world over, this holiday brings with it a new anticipation. The close of the year is upon us, the months passed have been marked with a collective anxiety of what is to come. Will it get better? Has the worst of it passed? What will I do next year?

Entrepreneurs are not immune to these same moments of uncertainty, however when one has the reigns in their hands the navigation of these troublesome times is infinitely easier.

This Holiday season holds a special anticipation for me personally. The birth of my second child is imminent (and I mean imminent, the bag is packed by the door). I know many of you reading this are parents as well. You know all too well the worry and the hope. The desire for everything to be better for them, than it was for you. It’s why we put in the hours, sacrifice daily, sleep less, desire more.

As I think of all the things I must teach my baby girl in the coming years; reading, potty training, table manners and the like, it has occurred to me that what I want her to know most of all is that it matters not where you’re from or where you are, it’s where you are going.

We are all someone’s children. We all have a hometown, a first kiss, a first disappointment, a first job. But the reality is these things, while important in the shape of our being, have no bearing on where our lives may take us. What we desire in life, what we desire for our children, lies ahead and not behind us.

As we come into this new year, let’s embrace the promise of infinite possibility. Forget whatever hurdle or misstep may have plagued you this past year and focus on where you want to be.

After all, it doesn’t matter where you’re from, it’s about where you’re going.

See you at the top.

All my best,

    Amen to that!

But even more so, what’s important is what we’re doing RIGHT NOW to get to where we’re going.

Know your goals – and be present.

Hi Jay, Thanks for waxing lyrical and talking of hope in anxious times. Sometimes it is all we have to grasp.I have two beautiful daughters and sometimes I worry about the legacy that not only I will leave but what the human race will leave for this next generation. I am in my second week with CCPRO, you and the CCPRO family have given me hope, the future is exciting. JJ often talks about the need for love in his wake up calls, in the words of the immortal Michael Jackson; “Love, it’s what the world needs now” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTeO1P18t30). All the best to you, your wife and daughter for the immanent birth of your child. Thanks for the unlimited possibilities and hope for the future. Aroha nui, from the ‘Land of the Long White Cloud’. Kindest Regards. Bill

    Jay,

Absolutely brilliant. I always love reading your inspirational articles. Congratulations on the upcoming birth of your second child. I know for me personally this article really means a lot. Especially remembering your story. Most people forget that the people in this industry who are at the top were once at the bottom as well. You too were once struggling to get by and working day and night to make sure you found your success. I appreciate everything you and Aaron have done for all of us that you’ve helped. Keep up the great work. I look forward to meeting you at the top someday soon!

  11. Its true wanted to be high attitude and work harder for the children that i can give them good life style.I AM AGREED WITH U.

  14. It is true about where you are going! As we celebrate the one who made life possible, we should reflect on the endless possibilities of love. As childen grow, it is so important to instill in them the truth about life! It is about a Savior who was born to bring love, hope, joy and peace to all who recieve these gifts. We are so use to working for things that it is hard to imagine that something so granduer can be free, all He asks is that we believe what He did and it is ours. Money can’t buy it, we can’t earn it, but it is the greatest treasure of all.And to think that He gave His all so that we can have it all, now that is worth celebrating. So as you shop for your gifts and enjoy your families and food and fellowship, remember who made it all possible. Jesus the Christ, our Saviour and soon coming King. So don’t just build up treasures on this earth, but build up treasures for all eternity.God Bless everyone!

  15. Barbara says:

Hi Jay, I love your words, it is all so true and so familiar to me. Those words were true when I was a young mother, and when I was a young grandmother they were doubly true and now that I am a young great grandmother those words almost overcome me. I enjoy my memories of the past, but I am so excited about our future, our children’s future, and their children’s future.

  16. Great stuff JK,

I am not a parent nor any near plans but I do resonate and feel we all should take this line with us,

“Forget whatever hurdle or misstep may have plagued you this past year and focus on where you want to be.”

    Cheers,
    Kirk

  17. David Brenowitz says:

Very well said, it really does not matter where you came from, but were you are going, and what you do when you get there. Congradulations on the new arrival.

  18. russ mclean says:

Jay, you talk about having young children, and what we desire for them. For me, I have four boys all in the work force collecting a paycheck, on a long road to a lousy pension. Just like me. They followed me on that road so I blame myself for not being a better inspiration. “Jay”, because of your dream and desire to create this incredable company, 2010 will be a fabulous year for me and I will be able to lead my boys and hopefully many others to prosperity and freedom of choice for the future.
    My deepest thanks!
