So there’s this road. It’s your road. Not in the sense that you own it per say. But that it’s just…yours.

There’s EXITS behind you. High School. First Job. First Girlfriend. First Boyfriend.

You can see all of those pretty clear in the rear view mirror.

Despite the fact you’re driving in the opposite direction, they all seem to be right… there…. Strangely still crystal clear.

Right behind you, when you look in your Rear View mirror.

But… you can’t really make out the EXITS ahead. They’re not foggy, but blurry. Threes look like Eights, Eights look like Threes. You flash the brights in hope of a little help. Doesn’t get any better.

It seems that you just have to keep moving forward, and trust that You’re road…is well You’re road. I guess you have to Believe in Yourself, right?

But every once in a while, on you’re road, there not just an exit, but an Intersection. New ROADS appear.

Right banks, hard lefts, sharp rights…..There are EXITS along these roads too.

You can’t really make those out any better than the one’s in front of you now, but then again, you can clearly see what’s behind you on the road you’re currently on.

Do you want more EXITS like the one’s in your past? Or are you willing to take a hard right onto a NEW ROAD. And see if you can’t leave something better in your rear view.

After all it is YOUR Road, remember?

———————————————-

Every day entrepreneurs around the world, take new roads to higher places. I look for my next intersection everyday. A chance to improve, to perform, to create, to assist, to grow.

Stay positive, keep the rear view where it belongs, behind you.

All my best,

The author C.S. Lewis, best known for his timeless classic The Chronicles of Narnia, wrote a remarkable little satire in 1942 called The Screwtape Letters (great name huh?). The book is formed by a series of letters from high-ranking demon named Screwtape, to his young nephew Wormwood, a junior demon, about how to properly and successfully tempt the “Patient” (human beings in this case).

Despite what seems like a rather dark undertone (after all it’s demons we’re talking about here), Lewis spurs great heights of humor with each page, and presents some incredibly enduring and poignant insights about human life.

In one of the latter letters, Screwtape describes to Wormwood the inner workings of man very interestingly. Says Screwtape: “Think of your man as a series of concentric circles, his will being the innermost, his intellect coming next, and finally his fantasy….(what) you must (do) is keep on shoving all the virtues outward, till they are finally located in the circle of fantasy.”

Will. Intellect. Fantasy.

I should say it’s not my intention now, nor in the future, to lecture about what is or isn’t virtuous. That is obviously and absolutely not my place.

However, I do think this passage spotlights an important point for entrepreneurs, or anyone for that matter, which is: whatever we want to achieve, whether that’s a more virtuous existence, business or individual goals, the PURSUIT MUST BEGIN INTERNALLY, WITH OUR WILL.

Will: We already know we are more likely to achieve something we are passionate about. We have a different level of energy and motivation. We CARE more. This is the station we should be pulling our 18 wheelers full of goals into for fueling. This is where our goals become habits.

Intellect: Almost inevitably, when we are confronted with a situation that is difficult, frightening or uncomfortable, we begin to over-analyze the issue. We intellectualize the situation into the ground and only end up sort of mentally chasing our own tail into exhaustion. Now, this is not to say our intellect isn’t a big part of our problem solving strategy, because it is. But…we have to know when call on our intuition and trust ourselves for that last bit of guidance.

Fantasy: The final frontier. We all know too many people who perpetually live in this space. This place is littered with sentences that begin with stuff like: “I hope to one day-”…” It would be nice if-”… “If only I could (blank)”… The challenge for entrepreneurs is to keep our goals out of this realm. This is a realm of INACTION. Where “hoping” and “wishing” instead of DOING reign supreme.

Nevertheless, we live in a world where there’s always someone trying to tell us or sell us, usually both, that their way is the right way, the only way, the best way, the fastest way.

Advice is a wonderful thing, and the most successful people I know are always the most willing students, but at the end of the day, I think it’s important to remember that any real growth, any lasting sustainable change, always comes from within.

All my best,

However, [...]

Goal setting is as natural to our everyday lives as eating. Because of this very reality, I won’t bore you with a long winded explanation about the virtues of goal setting. It’s importance, necessity, constructive uses… etc etc. You already know that. It’s impossible to achieve “something” if you don’t decide what that “something” is!

However, the process of how you set goals is an often ignored, but crucial element. I’ve often found that most challenges in my life came from knowing how to begin and how to end, but not the steps in between. Below is a little blueprint I’ve developed for myself, a methodology of sorts, that I’ve found useful to help me develop and adhere to my personal and professional goals.

S.M.A.R.T.

Specific. Measurable. Attainable. Relevant. Time Bound.

Specific: The more clearly you define what it is you’re driving to achieve, the more clearly you can define what steps need to be taken to reach your goal. The key is to be bold, audacious even (within reason of course, as I’ll get to later).

Measurable: You can’t improve, if you don’t know where you failed in the first place. Measurable’s allow for accountability and analytics. True humility and growth stem from searching with equal vigor for our greatness and our shortcomings. Both can always be improved upon.

Attainable: Set realistic objectives. If it’s your second day, you should probably expect second day results. Why invite unnecessary disappointment? If you are truly mentally prepared for whatever ambition is to come, you won’t hesitate to begin with.

Relevant: “Stay in your lane.” I say this to myself probably twice a day. If its not relevant to the task at hand, or a larger goal, it usually not needed. Streamline.

Time Bound: Why do we always perform best when the deadline inches towards us second by second? We’ve all done it. I still do from time to time. But, it seems human beings often need a little fire under our rear to get going. So be it. We all know it works!

At the end of the day, only one person can hold you accountable, YOU.

“Procrastination is the bad habit of putting off until the day after tomorrow, what should have been done the day before yesterday.” – Napoleon Hill

All my best,

Luck:

Pronunciation: \ˈlək\ Function: noun
1. a: a force that brings good fortune or adversity b: the events or circumstances that operate for or against an individual
2 : favoring chance; also: success
3: to prosper or succeed especially through chance or good fortune—usually used with out
4 : to come upon something desirable by chance —usually used with out, on, onto, or into

Lady Luck. We all know her. Celebrated in song, and in film. Wished upon us at the start of a journey or challenge. Prayed for, when we think we need it most. But seriously, what exactly is “Luck?” Beyond that, how does one become “Lucky?”

I’ve been called lucky more times than I could count, or ever want to for that matter. At a marketing event a couple of weeks ago I was asked: “But really man…mufflers in Topeka Kansas 6 years ago…to this? No way! You’ve got to be the luckiest guys ever! I need to take you to Vegas!” Charming fellow, but I couldn’t help but laugh at this guys’ enthusiasm. It was like he found a gold-plated rabbit’s foot wrapped in 20’s or something.

I told him: “First off I don’t gamble. I only bet on myself, that I can control! And second…you make your own luck, you’re not born with it. If that was the case I would’ve been successful a lot sooner than 6 years ago!” I knew he had probably heard that before; it’s not uncommon to hear people say that we make our own “luck.” But for some reason he actually paused, and seemed to think about the actual words. Maybe it was the sincerity with which he heard it, or maybe how I said it (since I really did mean it), but something dawned in him. He looked at me blankly for a second, then he simply responded: “You’re right. I guess I just haven’t been looking.”

“Luck”, at its base, is the essence of opportunity. Circumstances, decisions or relationships that present opportunities for our benefit. So how does one go about recognizing these things? My Vegas (almost) road-buddy hit it right on the head. We have to open our eyes, and Look.

“Lucky” people don’t have any mysterious or magical skills; they are simply adept at noticing, creating and most importantly, ACTING upon chance opportunities. They act on Intuition and are Optimists. They remain Open-Minded in times of struggle or uncertainty, and they maintain this Mindset constantly. If you think about it, simple reason would say: the more opportunities a person encounters (or creates) the more likely one is get favorable results. Right?

Everyday, it becomes easier for us to interact with one another. Ideas, energy and passions are exchanged and discussed. Ideas become reality. And People are actively creating the lives they wanted, helping those in need, inspiring those who are lost. Now, are all these people just “lucky”, or is something else in play? You tell me.

All my best,

Every four years, the eyes, ears and hearts of billions turn to soccer. It’s not simply a tournament. I think it’s sort of a like a pageant of humanity. A global display where passion illuminates more of what we have in common, that what we don’t.

One cannot really speak about this World Cup without acknowledging the significance of it’s location, South Africa. The first cup on African soil. A place where they say the earth has turned red from bloodshed and tears, in an effort to UNITE.

South Africa, as the host nation, has chosen to underscore these games with the classical concept UBUNTU. Ubuntu (who’s origins are the Bantu languages of southern Africa) is a humanist philosophy that focuses on people’s allegiances and relations with each other. It is called the essence of being human.

Ubuntu is about our interconnectedness; how we can’t live in isolation. Yes, Facebook and Twitter have done great things to bring us closer together, but at the end of the day it’s not how we get to each other, but how we treat each other once we get there. The technology of our age now asks that we extend those principles to the Internet. Our communication, our leadership and our commerce. The trust necessary for a collective prosperity. There’s a cool Zulu maxim which I will probably never be able to pronounce that goes: “umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu.” It means a person is, who they are, through others.

“A person is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.”
-Rev. Desmond Tutu

Open to others. Available to others. Affirming of others. Words to live by. Could we? For perhaps just one week? A day? An hour perhaps?

As the FIFA World Cup continues to capture the imagination of billions across the globe, we can’t help but beg the question: “if something as small a soccer ball can unite the world in celebration and peace, what else can we do?”

Hmmm…..

All my best,

This class of entrepreneurs from around the globe spent two days with CarbonCopyPRO co-founders Jay Kubassek and Aaron Parkinson as well as top leaders, marketers and trainers (all 10FOR10 graduates) for intensive training designed to take their businesses, and their lives, to the next level.

The purpose of the TENFORTEN, an intimate mastermind hosted twice yearly in CarbonCopyPRO’s New York City headquarters, is to equip, empower and inspire entrepreneurs. Each seminar takes on a personality of its own based on the unique dynamic of the class. This TENFORTEN can be best described as “raw” as trainers and attendees alike dove in to intense discussions on the little things that often separate “good” from “great”.

Hear what this graduating class has to say about their TENFORTEN experience:

“I can sum up my experience at the ‘10FOR10’ as the most inspiring, and yet humbling, experience I’ve ever had. The debt of gratitude I owe Jay for his opening talk can’t even be expressed in words. He has changed the game for me and opened my eyes to what I’m really supposed to be doing. I had my shortcomings exposed and I now know where I need to step it up. I am driven like never before to completely overhaul my game and drive forward faster and harder than I ever thought possible.”

Simon Guilliard, England

“What an incredible few days in New York at the ‘10FOR10’. Thank you! I now understand the true meaning of self-mastery, how to identify what holds me back and fully let go of what I don’t need so I’m able to concentrate all my efforts into one stream of energy. Observing two men who have already done it, I realize that this is not hard – this is surprisingly easy! Thank you CarbonCopyPRO for making it happen!”

Emil Bång, Sweden

“My ‘10FOR10’ experience was nothing short of remarkable. It was a complete mind-altering experience that totally challenged my thought process and previous beliefs related to marketing. I have a newfound respect for Jay, Aaron, JJ and the all the other ‘10FOR10’ trainers. I disagreed with excuses before but now I realize that excuses simply do not exist. I arrived in New York a modest marketer who desired to have great results. I wanted to learn how to do what the top earners do so that I could become a great marketer. I left New York as a leader who does what it takes to drastically grow my business so that I, and the people I work with, can achieve the results we desire. In one word ‘10FOR10’ was an ‘Awakening’.”

James Fann, Georgia, United States

“My life-changing experience at the ‘10FOR10’ can be summed up with one word ‘AMAZING’. Amazing attendees. Amazing CarbonCopyPRO co-founders, leaders, and coaches. Amazing information shared. Amazing motivating personal stories. Amazing shared positive energy – called LOVE. Amazing community spirit. Amazing insight into the true purpose of CarbonCopyPRO – to empower others to live a life of their choice. And, last but not least, amazing hospitality by the CarbonCopyPRO support staff.”

Dr. Charlie Smithdeal, Florida, United States

“Our experience at the ‘10FOR10’ can be summed up in one sentence: The experiences and knowledge shared by the creators and leaders in CarbonCopyPRO were priceless, life-changing, and inspirational! It’s on, and WE ARE IN for the ride of our lives! Thank you so much for ALL you do and for allowing us to attend the ‘10FOR10’!”

Jerry & Jennifer Vinson, Texas, United States

“OUR experience at the ‘10FOR10’ can be summed up with immense gratitude and appreciation to all the trainers for their personal insight and experiences. We believe the ‘10FOR10’ was the much-needed boost to kick-start our business and grow it to the next level. The trainers’ energy and exuberance has fueled our enthusiasm to achieve the goals we set for ourselves and to pull out all the stops, come what may, in order to change our life (and the lives of others) for the better.”

James & Zurieka Model, England

“The ‘10FOR10’ goes down as the most incredible professional event I have EVER attended. I’ve worked at several Fortune 500 companies and have attended many sales events over the past 15 years but nothing has compared to what I experienced at the ‘10FOR10’. I wasn’t really sure what to expect the first day but it was evident immediately from the look in their eyes that Jay & Aaron were 100% committed to inspire us as they shared their WHY. I needed this event in more ways than I can describe – the ‘10FOR10’ helped me believe in myself again and gave me a clear perspective: I am determined to be successful and I don’t care how long it takes me. I will plant the seeds and take action every day and I know if I do the best I can and maximize my efforts the rest will fall into place.”

Russell Liebowitz, Florida, United States

“EVERYBODY NEEDS TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET TO THE ‘10FOR10’! This weekend was a total game-changer for us. Being surrounded by seven figure earners for two days and experiencing who they really are and what they do to achieve their own unique greatness totally blew me away. I learned more about how to conduct my business and myself on a daily basis in those two days than I ever could have imagined!

I have discovered my WHY and realize the WHAT and the HOW that have kept me distracted me for two years and kept me from reaching my true potential. Now that I feel empowered I can, in turn, inspire ambitious entrepreneurs that seek my leadership. All I can say is thank you, Jay, Aaron, JJ, and all of the trainers who shared their passion, their love for this industry, and their commitment to empowering and assisting all the attendees grow as individuals and as marketers. CarbonCopyPRO truly rocks!”

Art Basmajian & Cheryl Hunt, Pennsylvania, United States

“My experience at the ‘10FOR10’ can be summed up with this: it feels so powerful to spend time with so many multimillionaires and to mastermind with these leaders on a one-on-one basis. Listening to Jay Kubassek, one of the co-founders who created it all, simply exceeded my expectations. The entire ‘10FOR10’ experience in SOHO was spent on the exact steps I need to take to accomplish my goals: visualizing what it takes to be a leader, personal development, choosing my environment and positioning myself to fulfill all my expectations.”

Saul Marques, New Jersey, United States

“I love attending live events, but the ‘10FOR10’ is on a whole other level. Spending two days with the top trainers and marketers as well as getting to know the other “up and comers” was incredible. There was so much energy in the room. In those two days, we received a wealth of information and knowledge and I left feeling empowered and eager to take my business to the next level. Getting over fears is not an easy thing to do but with the right people in your corner you can do anything. I can do anything. I’d like to thank Jay and Aaron for creating the ‘10FOR10’ and hosting the event and I’d also like to extend my appreciation to the speakers and trainers who took the time out of their schedules to be there.”

Micheal Coleman, Canada

“I remember going through the CCPRO back office after I joined and reading about the ‘10FOR10’ and instantly making that my first goal. I knew I had to attend to shatter my own personal glass ceiling and raise the level of my game. The mystique of the event absolutely consumed me as I noticed so many of the grads and trainers were always on the Leader Board.

You have to experience the ‘10FOR10’ personally to fully understand but I will reveal this: there’s a ‘magic’ that happens when you gather the top earners and performers in one room together … a crystallization of ideas, friendships created with real players in our business, training, and a concrete action plan to set everything in motion … it’s all there. The ‘10FOR10’ was everything I imagined and more.

Focus all your energy and do what it takes to attend the next ‘10FOR10’ as it has made ALL the difference in my business. Possibly the most significant tool came in the form of a question that could very well determine if you succeed or fail in your business. So let me ask you … ‘ARE YOU IN OR ARE YOU OUT?’”

Samuel Levitz, Hawaii, United States

I never was what you would call an avid reader. I enjoyed it, found it to be an entertaining escape at times. But it wasn’t until I began my journey as an entrepreneur, I realized that the continued education I needed to get ahead, wasn’t going to magically come to me via osmosis (although that would be pretty sweet). It was going to take reading. A lot of reading.

The digitization of modern communication has put the written word front and center in our everyday lives. We are constantly texting, tweeting, emailing, bbm’ng, g-chatting and the like. I swear we probably write more with our thumbs than the rest of our hands! We all understand that our ability to effectively articulate our thoughts, solutions, expertise and sentiments are cardinal elements of any entrepreneurial business. Everyday we’ve got to create blog posts, ad copy, auto-responders, headlines, sub-headlines. All of which are crucial elements contributing to our success.

The process of improving how we communicate is invariably different for each person. But regardless of how it happens, it’s really just about doing it. You can’t work on your swing if you don’t go to the cages right? I was given a cool little book this past Christmas called The Elements of Style that has helped a ton with those annoying little grammar principles we often forget. Things like: its vs. it’s, when to use among vs. between, and all the dreaded rules about punctuation.

So… since I missed out on having a tweed-laden professor in corduroys with a constellation of crumbs in his beard teach me all these golden nuggets of grammar, I have this handy little text which I recommend.

It’s funny when you become a parent, and it’s time to help with homework, you realize school’s never really out. Keep improving everyone.

All my best,

p.s. I found it online here: http://www.crockford.com/wrrrld/style.html. But I would say grab it on Amazon so you can refer to it more readily when you have questions.

New York, NY – CarbonCopyPRO recently announced the winner of their first ever “Brick & Mortar Throwdown” contest. The light-hearted competition was designed to encourage traditional business owners to share the impact the company’s marketing training and education has had on their businesses’ bottom line.

“CarbonCopyPRO began as a marketing education and lead management platform for internet marketers,” stated the company’s President, Aaron Parkinson. “What we discovered along the way, however, was a tremendous void in resources available to traditional business owners and that is why we are actively bringing this invaluable education to Main Street. We want to empower the “Mom and Pop” small business owners by providing them with simple, cost efficient marketing strategies they can implement and manage themselves.”

The winner of CarbonCopyPRO’s inaugural contest is Kurt Kytonen, owner of Mills Canvas, a boat cover dealership located in Minnesota. Mr. Kytonen, known by his Twitter moniker “Canvasman”, started his business in 1980 but didn’t develop an Internet presence (www.CoverSmart.biz) until 2007. In early 2010 Kurt began implementing CarbonCopyPRO’s marketing strategies and in just three months drove more traffic to his website than he had in the three previous years combined.

“Business is BOOMING this year thanks to CarbonCopyPRO’s simple step-by-step program,” stated Mr. Kytonen. “One week lead times have turned in to two and three week lead times. I never had any idea I could do so well on the Internet.”

When asked about his advertising budget and what this dramatic increase in traffic to his website has cost him, Mr. Kytonen estimates he’s spent “a couple of hundred dollars”.

CarbonCopyPRO is hosting their 6th “Master Marketing Event” in Las Vegas at the Venetian Resort on November 20, 2010. All business owners and aspiring business owners are invited to this intensive training and business-building event. Tickets can be purchased at CarbonCopyPRO.com.
